Job Description

The Watertown Free Public Library is a busy, mid-sized library serving a diverse population. We are looking for a dynamic, service-oriented professional to join our Access Services team. This position plays a critical role in providing timely access to library materials. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Access Services, this position is responsible for receiving, cataloging, and processing library materials and ensuring a high level of customer services to patrons.

Position Duties

  • Create and maintain on-order and bibliographic records for a wide range of materials,
    including serials, print, audiovisual materials, Library of Things, and depository program
    items.
  • Perform cataloging that ensures materials are classified and processed according to
    library standards and guidelines (such as OCLC, DDC, MARC21) so that materials can be
    easily retrieved.
  • Assist in original record creation for specific collections such as Local History and Library
    of Things.
  • Participate in the inspection, recording, and processing of new materials shipments,
    ensuring that materials are properly tracked and routed according to established
    procedures.
  • Resolve issues related to incomplete, incorrect, or conflicting bibliographic, holdings,
    and item data.

Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science preferred; or equivalent combination of experience, training, and education which provide the following skills, knowledge and experience:
    • Demonstrated customer service excellence
    • Knowledge of library classification and organization
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to compile and interpret statistics
    • Experience with basic Microsoft Excel functions and Google Workspace products
    • Ability to solve problems swiftly and creatively
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal communications skills
    • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions

Hours & Compensation

  • This is a full-time, 37 hours/week, union position. Schedule requires a minimum of one evening per week and one Saturday shift in a regular rotation.
  • Starting salary is $33.80/hour. Full salary range is $33.80 – $44.59.
