Computer and Natural Sciences Research and Instruction Librarian, University of Washington, Bothell, WA

Overview:

Under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning Services and in consultation with the Head of Undergraduate Instruction, the Computer and Natural Sciences Research and Instruction Librarian will collaborate with library colleagues and across campus to provide instruction and reference services, and to develop library collections.

This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. This position is not tenure eligible. This position is represented by SEIU 925 – Libraries. Please see the SEIU 925 collective bargaining agreement for the Librarian promotion process.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES (80%)

  • Serves as a subject liaison to computer and natural science programs.
  • Provides classroom and online instruction in the library’s curriculum-integrated information literacy program in their subject areas and in the library’s first year information literacy curricula at UW Bothell and Cascadia College.
  • Provides research assistance to students, faculty, and staff at the Research Help desk and online, under the direction of the Director of Public Services.
  • Selects print and electronic materials for computer and natural science curricula, informed by the UW Libraries larger research collections and regional consortia, and under the direction of the Director of Collections Strategy.
  • Plays an active role in planning and assessing library services.
  • May participate in opportunities to support students with digital scholarship projects, under the general direction of the Head of Digital Scholarship.

SERVICE & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (20%)

  • Engages in professional development and service activities in pursuit of professional growth, promotion and continuing appointment, and to advance library services and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and a more socially just society. Demonstratable understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities who possess a wide range of educational goals.

Preferred

  • Experience in online and in-person research and instruction services in an academic or library setting, including:
    • liaison and collection development work,
    • user centered public service, and
    • familiarity with critical information literacy.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in current and emerging instructional technologies and online learning pedagogies for hybrid and online instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively balance workload and competing priorities in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment where consultation, flexibility, creativity, and cooperation are essential.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
  • Commitment to continually seeking improvement in practices, services, collections, and facilities.
  • Demonstrated interest in engaging in scholarship or other professional contributions.

SALARY

The base salary range for this position will be $5,500-$7,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a moving allowance.

While we hope to fill the position by Summer 2024, we are happy to work with the successful candidate to explore opportunities for an earlier or later start date.
