First Year and Transfer Experience Librarian, Oklahoma State University Library, Stillwater, OK

The Oklahoma State University Library seeks applicants for the position of First Year and Transfer Experience Librarian. This position is a member of the OSU Library faculty reporting to the Director of Library Teaching and Learning. This is a tenure-track position with anticipated initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. As part of the Teaching and Learning Team this Librarian will work to develop, maintain, and coordinate library programs, collaborative activities, and partnerships related to first year and transfer student experience at the University and will serve as library liaison for the English department.

We expect some library experience but are primarily interested in a candidate’s curiosity and willingness to grow and develop as a professional, as well as their ability to help others grow and learn as part of a community. We welcome applications from early career candidates. This person will be a vital part of a highly collaborative library team that seeks to learn together and support each other.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and delivers information literacy instruction for first-year students including First Year Seminars and
  • First Year Composition courses.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of learning objectives and assessments for first-year and transfer
  • student instruction and outreach programs.
  • Works with other members of the Teaching & Learning team to develop innovative programming for first-year and transfer students.
  • Works with the Instructional Design and Online Learning Librarian to develop instructional content, including guides, tutorials, and other online materials for first-year and transfer students.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with academic and co-curricular programs that support first year and Transfer students.
  • Performs liaison duties in the area of English (i.e., book orders, OA adoption, research assistance/support, library instruction, outreach)

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree is required. While we anticipate that many applicants will have an ALA accredited master’s in library/information science, we are also interested in candidates with a relevant mix of education and experience.
  • Experience working with first year and/or transfer students in an academic setting.
  • Experience providing training or instruction to in-person and/or virtual audiences.
  • The ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment.
  • Desire to engage with a broad spectrum of student communities.
  • Ability to:
  • Interact with the public in a friendly manner, successfully complete multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adjust
  • to evolving campus needs.
  • Communicate complicated ideas effectively, listen well, and respond to student, staff, and faculty needs.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff to foster collaborative partnerships inside and
  • outside the library in order to build community and connections.
  • Meet university requirements for tenure, including scholarly and creative activities and service.

The salary is a minimum of $60,000 annually for an 11-month appointment with a generous holiday schedule, health care plans, and retirement options. As a new library faculty member, you will receive start-up funding for research and/or professional travel and have access to the Library’s grant writer and development team as well as a full communication
team.
