The Youth Room Library Page will perform various duties to support Hubbard Memorial Library. Duties include shelving, shelf reading, assisting with set-up, breakdown, and preparation for youth programs, and assisting staff and library patrons when needed. This work requires frequent contact with the public and is under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian. The Library Page is a non-exempt employee.

Duties:

  • Assists with the daily operation of the library. Helps to maintain order and neatness of the library, especially in the youth room.
  • Performs semi-skilled duties requiring adherence to standards of accuracy, timeliness, tact, and confidentiality.
  • Serves as an attendant to the youth room and maintains a comfortable environment for all patrons.
  • Assists patrons in locating materials.
  • Assists in preparing programs for children and teens.
  • Performs duties as assigned by the Youth Services Librarian, Library Director, and other staff members.
  • Communicates effectively and interacts tactfully and courteously with staff and library users.
  • Checks-in and shelves library materials in the proper order and location.
  • Reads the shelves and shifts books in crowded areas.
  • Works as an attendant in the youth room.
  • Sorts and shelves books according to the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Straightening and tidying before end of shift.
  • May circulate books, collect fines, process new patron applications, etc., as required at the Circulation Desk.
  • Assists in preparing crafts.
  • Setting up and breaking down for programs.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Library experience and experience working with children and teens is preferred. Must be comfortable working with children, teens, parents, and educators. Must be able to file alphabetically and numerically and understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be proficient with current technology. Must possess excellent communication skills and maintain the ability to relate well with co-workers and the public, both adults and children. Must be accountable to be present and on time for scheduled hours. Qualified applicants under 18 years of age will be required to provide an authorized work permit; Candidate is subject to passing a CORI and preemployment physical.
