The Alumni Medical Library at Boston University seeks a collaborative professional to serve as Knowledge Synthesis Librarian. The Alumni Medical Library serves the faculty, staff and students of the Boston University Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Public Health.
The Knowledge Synthesis Librarian will work in the Reference and Education Services department, reporting to the Assistant Director of Library and Information Management Education. This position will be the primary library liaison to the Goldman School of Dental Medicine with broad duties to support knowledge synthesis and systematic review services. This position collaborates with BUMC IT and others to keep abreast of emerging technologies and how to adapt them for academic and research purposes.
Essential Functions
Research Collaboration: Maintains comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of knowledge synthesis, expert searching and systematic reviews. Independently provides advanced Reference and Research Services. Helps students, staff, and faculty with systematic review related work such as helping navigate the systematic review process from protocol to publication, serving as an active participant on systematic, scoping, rapid, and umbrella review teams, developing and execute complex systematic search strategies including preparing the searches for publication, and both training on and using citation and review management software (Endnote, RefWorks, Covidence, RevMan Web, etc.). Mentor and train other librarians in evidence synthesis methods and best practices. Develops Research Data Management knowledge and skills to support collaborative initiatives within BU, and with other health sciences libraries, universities and professional library associations. Participates on bibliometric and data management projects, and other projects as assigned.
Liaison and Instruction services: Provides information skills instruction to students, faculty, residents and staff across the Boson University Medical Campus. Liaison duties include providing Evidence based dentistry sessions to dental students in the summer and fall, teaching other subject specific educational sessions like Public Health & Dentistry. Other educational duties include recording tutorials for dental residents and students, providing reference consults, and providing orientations to residents and students.
Emerging Technologies: Keeps abreast of changing technologies and how to adapt them for academic and research purposes in accordance to best practices,
Administrative: Provides accurate and timely reporting on activities. Develops policies and procedures for knowledge synthesis in advance of strategic goals. Participates in library, campus and professional communities. Provides back-up coverage for circulation. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills
The successful candidate will hold a masters degree in library and information science or equivalent. Demonstrated knowledge of searching biomedical literature required. To be hired at a Research Collaboration Librarian II level, the successful candidate will have experience via course work, internship or full-time position. To be hired at a Research Collaboration Librarian III level, the successful candidate will have 5 years of scholarly publications, specialized systematic review training, record of supporting dental students and faculty, educational technology skills, and/or extensive teaching experience. We will train the right person and encourage applicants from a variety of disciplines, lived experiences, and backgrounds.
