Business Librarian, Office of the Provost, Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA

Job Summary

Librarians with discipline subject expertise in information resources and tools, pedagogy and/or research collaboratively contribute to the Libraries matrixed programs supporting Information Assistance, Curricula Support, Scholarly Communications, and Research Information Management. Librarians are not assigned to a specific academic department, but depending upon expertise, academic credentials and professional passion, provide interdisciplinary support across several programs. Librarians succeed in the Libraries’ matrixed organizational structure through recognizing opportunities to innovate and actively contributing to ongoing program planning, implementation, and assessment.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and support resources for guidance and assistance for clients to find, access, evaluate, and use information. Create and maintain web-based research guides, tutorials, and web pages.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate research and information-seeking instruction into appropriate courses and curriculum to advance information and data literacy skills.
  • Provide general, as well as specialized consultation in person, phone, email and chat.
  • Provide discipline expertise for selection decisions on scholarly content.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Library and information science is required
  • 4 years of related experience is required
  • Undergraduate degree, graduate coursework, and/or professional experience in business
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business information resources, tools, and scholarly trends
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business pedagogy and current instructional techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation and commitment to inclusiveness of diverse ideas and perspectives
  • Evidence of self-motivation to address new challenges, ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and commitment to learn new knowledge and skills
  • Familiarity with current and emerging technologies and trends in academic libraries and scholarly communications
  • Excellent organizational skills, including time and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; able to lead as well as execute and take constructive input from multiple sources
  • Demonstrated involvement and contribution to the profession through service, presentations, publications, and/or research

Preferred

  • Experience working in an academic library or corporate/business setting
  • Demonstrated success working within a dynamic, matrixed organization
