The STEM Research and Instruction Librarian will provide library instruction, research services, and collection development for designated subject areas. This position serves as the liaison librarian to the School of Engineering, the Conway School of Nursing, and to the departments of Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. This position operates as part of a team of research and instruction librarians responsible for engaging students and faculty in using the collections and services available in the University Libraries. As appropriate, the librarian collaborates and partners with campus groups, such as the Center for Teaching Excellence and outside groups, such as the Washington Research Library Consortium.
The salary range is $58,000-$60,000
Responsibilities:
- Participates as a subject specialist and generalist in the provision of reference and research assistance to users, through in-person + virtual consultations, phone consultations , and email correspondence.
- Participates as a collection development resource and library liaison for designated disciplines: engineering, nursing, mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics..
- Develops and updates subject-specific LibGuides and other instructional materials to improve access to and use of the library collections.
- Provides individual and group library instruction, both in general and in subject-specific settings.
- Monitor scholarly publishing trends and their impact on information and library services to STEM students and faculty
- Works in tandem with colleagues in the Libraries and across campus to develop and expand new library initiatives, including the promotion of scholarly communications and open access.
- Participates as a professional member in the University Libraries in shared collegial decision making and planning; participate in committees and ad hoc projects; contribute to the library profession and engage in professional development activities; participate in and contribute to professional organizations and publications.
Qualifications:
ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent required; secondary degree in a STEM discipline and at least one (1) to two (2) year of experience working in a college or university library, particularly those serving scientists or engineers.
Skill in using common computer software, library-specific applications, and social media (e.g., word processing software, bibliographic systems, databases, etc.).
