Summary

Provides on-demand legal and business research and reference support to attorneys and staff, including legislative histories, brief checks, archival research and complex research requests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Research Services team with providing reference and in-depth research services for the firm’s attorneys and staff utilizing legal, business and practice-related databases. 
  • Conducts entity data research and produce reports.
  • Assists with monitoring legislative/regulatory developments, dockets, industry/ client news, events, or topics across multiple platforms.
  • Contribute to the development of practice specific research guides.
  • Contribute to business development research initiatives.
  • Observes confidentiality of client and firm matters at all times.
  • Assists with knowledge projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Masters of Library & Information Science from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Two to three years of work experience in a Law library is required.

·         Proficient in legal research platforms, including Westlaw, Lexis, and docket retrieval platforms.

·         Technical aptitude with ability to learn new systems and applications as they emerge.

·         Ability to understand and apply library policies and procedures effectively.

·         Ability to research and find resources to provide client specific intelligence effectively and with little to no supervision.

·         Ability to read and write English at a collegiate level.

·         Ability to obtain library resources and information from other libraries and outside sources without supervision.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with courtesy and in a professional manner while conducting library business and providing assistance to library users.
  • Ability to work in an environment which occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain due to a high volume of requests for information which have to be filled while performing other essential duties.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for most of his/her job duties.  There is the need to frequently walk including climbing stairs.  There will be a moderate amount of standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting and reaching for some of his/her job duties.
  • Visual requirements include reading off a computer screen as well as printed materials.  A high degree of dexterity is required due to frequent use of a telephone console.
  • Verbal and auditory requirements include the ability to communicate clearly over the telephone as well as in person.
  • There is a moderate level of grasping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects of less than 25 lbs.
