The WTO Secretariat maintains a limited internship programme for post-graduate university students wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. Only a limited number of such internship posts is available.

The WTO Internship Programme is open to post-graduate students from all WTO members and countries or customs territories engaged in accession negotiations – WTO Internship Programme

The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill an Intern position in the Official Documents and Registry of Notifications Section (ODRNS), located in the Documentation Branch of the Languages and Documentation Services Division. The duration of the internship is for six months

Qualification

Education

  • Must have recognized qualification in information management/library/archival science or related area, plus one year of relevant postgraduate studies (e.g., Master’s degree) which must have been completed at the time of application

Knowledge and Skills

  • A sound understanding of the principles of cataloging and indexing.
  • A sound understanding of controlled lists, thesaurus, ontology and knowledge graph.
  • Ability to describe documents accurately and consistently in English.
  • Knowledge of new information technologies.
    Good verbal and written communication skills.

Languages

  • Advanced knowledge of English and a good working knowledge of French or Spanish would be an asset.

Eligibility

  • Interns are recruited from among nationals of WTO Member states and Observer governments.
  • Interns shall have completed at least one year of their postgraduate studies (for example, Master’s) in a relevant discipline (for example, economics, law, political science, international relations).
  • The minimum age for an intern is 21 years and the maximum age 30 years.
  • A roster of suitable candidates is maintained from which interns are selected. In addition to the internship programmes, the need may also arise to recruit interns at short notice for specific tasks. These recruits will also be drawn from the roster. Names will be maintained on the roster for one year and no more.
