Reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services, the Research Services Librarian participates in general reference and instructional duties, collaborates in providing research services and outreach activities of the Law Library, and participates in collection development projects in support of the library’s strategic priorities. This position is expected to be primarily in-person with an option for some remote work.

Research Librarians are non-tenure track members of the Law School faculty at the rank of Lecturing Fellow/Senior Lecturing Fellow. Employer will assist with relocation costs.
Position Availability: July 1, 2022; start date negotiable but must be prior to August 1.
Responsibilities:
- Provides extensive reference and research services to Duke Law faculty, students, staff, the Duke University community, and the public.
- Participates in the faculty liaison librarian program and the reference desk rotation (including occasional Sundays during academic semesters).
- Manages the Law Library’s popular and long-running Faculty Research Assistants Program; responsible for hiring, training, and coordinating a team of 4-5 law student research assistants who provide support for short-term faculty research projects.
- Teaches a variety of courses and workshops, including the research component of the first-year Legal Analysis, Research & Writing course and various guest lectures in upper-level courses. May teach one upper-level legal research course (depending upon qualifications, interest, and curricular needs of the law school).
- Reviews, develops, and plans outreach activities of the Law Library.
- Assists the Head of Collection Development with collection planning and review, and implementing collection-related projects.
- Participates in library planning committees and task forces and engages in law school, campus, regional, and national professional organizations and collaborative activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
J.D. from ABA-accredited law school (or non-U.S. equivalent) and M.L.I.S. or equivalent graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program by start date. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment. Problem solving, analytical, organizational and project management skills. Strong service orientation, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an academic law library.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing complex faculty requests.
- Experience with formal or informal instruction.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in one or more of the following: new and emerging legal technologies; empirical and statistical research and resources; foreign, comparative, and international law.
