The School of Library & Information Science in the College of Human Sciences & Education at Louisiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with a demonstrated potential for research and teaching in School Librarianship. This is a 9-month academic appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2022. Options for summer teaching are available. Successful candidates must hold a doctorate or be a doctoral student in the candidacy phase with graduation by August 2022. Our School is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty and we encourage applications from members of groups underrepresented in Library & Information Science. Additionally, we seek candidates whose research, teaching, or experience has prepared them to contribute to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
Responsibilities: Teach courses for the MLIS focus area in school librarianship and for the Graduate Certificate in School Librarianship and other courses as assigned. Advise and mentor students in both programs. Serve as internship advisor for those interning in school libraries. Engage in scholarly research in the area of school librarianship leading to publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Actively assist with student recruitment and participate in service activities pertaining to the mission of the School, the College, and the University.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in LIS or related field (or a doctoral student in the candidacy phase with graduation by August 2022) and an MLIS or equivalent; experience in online teaching at the graduate level
Preferred Qualifications: Secondary research interest in Youth Information Behavior or related area; demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication in school librarianship; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
