Outreach and Data Librarian, BiblioTemps, Cambridge, MA

The temporary Outreach and Data Librarian will provide administrative and outreach support
for the Research Support team at UCS. UCS is launching several scholarly communication
initiatives over the coming year and this position will support the roll out of these
projects—including an institutional repository, data management, and subscription
management system. They will also provide support for workflow projects and community
building among the analytical staff. The Librarian will engage staff in building practices of
organizational documentation in support of long-term strategic goals toward open science.

This is a temporary, eight-month position.

Duties:

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the
information listed below.

  • Catalog UCS publications and scholarly material;
  • Support analyst staff in managing research data using Dataverse, Open Science Framework, and ArcGIS Online;
  • Fulfill interlibrary loan requests; 
  • Support an ongoing weeding project;
  • Assist staff in accessing electronic resources;
  • Co-design and schedule community building activities for research staff around DEIJ and other professional development topics;
  • Create onboarding and marketing material via SharePoint and email newsletters; 
  • Co-plan, schedule, and implement programming that highlights new Research Support
  • tools and services;
  • Represent Research Support at events and committee meetings

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a field such as science, computer science, social science, political science, English, communications/marketing and one to two years of comparable experience. Current or recent Master’s degree students are encouraged to apply.
  • Data curation and database management experience with knowledge of FAIR principles preferred.
  • Strong research, written, oral, relationship-building, and academic social network communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse general audiences, scientific professionals, and decision makers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize many tasks, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new technological tools, applications, and techniques continuously is desirable.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude; ability to work in an environment that can become fast-paced near deadlines.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

At UCS, comparable training and/or experience can be substituted for degrees when
appropriate.
