Iwasaki Library seeks a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our instruction team. The Marlboro Institute Librarian will lead faculty in exploring and developing open content for their courses; developing open educational initiatives; and promoting open educational resources to the Emerson community. This position also provides essential support by designing and implementing information literacy curricula, creating online tutorials and teaching resources, promoting information literacy within the Marlboro Institute, and assessing the impact the library’s teaching and assessment initiatives have on student learning.

As a member of the Teaching, Learning & Assessment department, this position also provides reference services and support, including consults with students and faculty, responding to reference email queries, monitoring chat, etc., and may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Marlboro Institute faculty to integrate library information literacy initiatives programmatically into curricula within the Marlboro Institute and to deliver course-specific content and advise on research assignments.
Teach introductory, advanced, and specialized class sessions both in-person and remotely. Design and deliver online tutorials, digital learning objects, and other teaching materials.
Facilitate faculty discovery, design, and development of open textbooks and open educational resources; collaborate with teaching, learning, assessment colleagues to design effective assessment strategies of the Library’s open educational initiatives; keep current on critical open education issues.
Partner with faculty and with other college academic support departments to enhance college-wide information literacy efforts. Collaborate with Teaching, Learning, and Assessment colleagues to develop and facilitate Information Literacy workshops for faculty.

Your Other Responsibilities

Provide reference and research services by answering questions, advising on appropriate resources, and instructing patrons in the use of the online catalog and other electronic databases.
Serve on one or more library teams to serve the needs of the library and its constituencies. Monitor developments in the field of library reference and instruction to remain current on effective strategies and best practices. Other duties as assigned.

Your qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution; or equivalent educational experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years experience teaching in an educational or professional setting, with evidence of strong interest and success with learning, implementing, and teaching using current and emerging information technologies.
Demonstrated instructional experience in remote learning environments.
One year of reference experience in an academic setting, and excellent reference interview skills and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to incorporate principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and sustainability into services, programs, and collections related to the work of the position.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment as well as take initiative on independent projects.

You’ll be preferred with:

One or more years’ experience working in an academic library.
Demonstrated commitment to the development of deep knowledge in the area of open educational/access resources.
Demonstrated willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills.
Facility using course management systems.
Formal training or coursework in instructional design, academic assessment, and/or inclusive pedagogy.
Experience creating online learning materials such as research guides and tutorials.

Work Environment:

Hybrid work environment. Will need reliable internet access to work from home and the ability to travel to Emerson’s campus in downtown Boston on a regular basis.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods
Ability to concentrate for long periods of time

Please Note: Your schedule may include night and weekend work as needed.

The salary range for this position is between $54,000-$56,500.

This position has a work period of 11-months based upon the business needs of the College, which means you get a month off every summer.
