School Media Adjunct Faculty Position & School Media Student Success and Advising Staff, North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC
Posted July 22, 2021
Description:
The School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS) at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) offers the Master in Library Science degree that includes a concentration in School Media. The MLS program is accredited through the American Library Association. The program has grown significantly in its enrollment and SLIS needs instructors meet this demand for instruction and student success and advising. SLIS seeks to hire qualified candidates to fill two responsibilities:
First, SLIS seeks to hire 1-3 adjunct instructors to teach courses for the School Media program in the Master in Library Science program. The position will begin immediately for delivery of courses for the Fall 2021 semester. The position will also deliver courses for the Spring and Summer 2022 semester. The courses will be delivered online in a synchronous format using the Blackboard learning management system and your choice of live sessions once per week through WebEx, Zoom, or Blackboard Ultra or Collaboration. The possible courses are fully developed with syllabi and content designed to meet critical student learning outcomes that align with ALA accreditation standards.
The select candidate(s) must be willing to teach one undergraduate course, LSIS 4505 Survey of Literature for Children and Adolescents. Additionally, we anticipate openings for Spring and Summer 2022 to teach other graduate courses in the School Media program including Family and Community Relationships, Administration of the School Media Center, and Information Technologies in Educational Organizations.
Second, SLIS seeks to hire 1-2 staff level team members to support the student success and advising needs of the School Media program. Candidates holding licensure in school media is preferred. Students in the School Media program are required to obtain licenses to serve in K-12 education settings. SLIS seeks team members to advise school media students, help students develop a course of study, and help students find and fulfill the practical experience requirements. The student success and advising service model is delivered remotely through virtual platforms. Most of the School Media graduate students are participating in the MLS program online and most are balancing full-time or part-time employment while matriculating through the program.
