Job Description:
The Evening & Sunday Circulation Assistant provides coverage for circulation and access services during evening and Sunday hours. This position primarily ensures consistent library operations are provided and closing procedures are followed.
Position Duties:
- Monitors evening and weekend circulation activities, including lending, returns, and patron record maintenance.
- Enforces library policies related to building access, behavior, and resource use.
- Assists with training student employees
- Monitors closing procedures and ensures adequate student staff service desk coverage.
- Maintains accuracy and confidentiality of patron and circulation data.
- Provides directional and general assistance to library users.
- Ensures proper shelving and organization of materials.
- Communicates operational or facilities issues to the Circulation Supervisor and/or library management.
- Collect and record statistical data for circulation activities, including patron head counts and service usage metrics.
- Provide front-line assistance with general information and basic reference inquiries.
- Respond to phone and in-person patron questions about library hours, equipment, programs, and services.
- Perform basic printer & copier troubleshooting.
- Assist with collection inventory, shelf reading, signage updates, and other stacks maintenance projects as assigned.
- Assists with creating Library Displays.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma required; some college coursework in Education, Library
- Science and/or Information Science strongly preferred.
- Prior library experience required.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong computer proficiency and familiarity with library systems, including the
- Library of Congress Classification system.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math and written English skills.
- Commitment to high-quality customer service and teamwork.
Physical Requirements:
- Push/pull book carts up to 75 lbs. and reach shelving up to 7 feet high.
Hours & Compensation:
Pay Rate: $17.50 per hour
Schedule:
- Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs 5 – 10 PM
- Sunday 3 – 10 PM
- No hours during holidays and academic breaks
This is a temporary position.
