Description
The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is seeking a Peer Review Support Assistant (PRSA) to assist volunteer editors with handling manuscripts submitted to peer review, with the goal of prompt editorial decisions. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team-oriented position with administrative support and customer service components. This position reports directly to the Peer Review Support Manager.
Responsibilities
- Use of email and the manuscript management system to maintain clear communication with volunteer editors, volunteer reviewers, and authors throughout peer review, to foster an open and transparent environment:
- Assisting Editors to ensure that reviews and revisions are submitted in a timely manner
- Evaluating reviewer comments and metadata to uphold user anonymity
- Maintaining records of the peer review process:
- Supporting volunteer editors who have a variety of working styles while keeping track of correspondence and timelines
- Ensuring appropriate handling of confidential documents
- Other duties as necessary to contribute to the overall success of the peer review support team, the Publications Department, and the Society as a whole
Qualifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Experience handling multiple responsibilities and prioritizing tasks
- Experience in a professional office environment is strongly preferred
- Proficiency with basic business applications (Google Suite, Adobe)
- Experience with Editorial Manager® or other peer review tracking systems a plus

Hours and Compensation
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary Range: $48,500.00 To $50,500.00 Annually
