Position Duties:
- Renders professional service in a specialized field
- May serve as an assistant to a higher level librarian
- Represent the library in a professional capacity to library organizations and community groups
- Performs professional tasks of a more difficult nature
- Organizes and maintains assigned collections
- Manage material selection and acquisition through book review reading, book selection, meetings, and contact with patrons
- Prepares reports and memoranda
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- MLIS from an ALA accredited university
- Two years of public library experience, including one year of experience or training in a specialized area
- Ability to build on skills developed as an entry level/Librarian I
- Ability to interpret library policies and procedures for the public
- Proficient in the use of automated systems
- Ability to perform basic maintenance on computers in a networked environment
- Knowledgeable in accepted library practice, policies, and procedures
- Knowledgeable in library administrative practices
- Demonstrates an ability to interact with a diverse population
- Proficient in the use of current technology common to a library environment
- Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and through the written word
- Ability to plan, train, and coordinate the work of others
- Strong commitment to public service
- Ability to speak a second language is a plus, but not required
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s License
Hours & Compensation:
- $91,318.00 per year; full-time, union position.
