Position Duties:

  • Renders professional service in a specialized field
  • May serve as an assistant to a higher level librarian
  • Represent the library in a professional capacity to library organizations and community groups
  • Performs professional tasks of a more difficult nature
  • Organizes and maintains assigned collections
  • Manage material selection and acquisition through book review reading, book selection, meetings, and contact with patrons
  • Prepares reports and memoranda
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • MLIS from an ALA accredited university
  • Two years of public library experience, including one year of experience or training in a specialized area
  • Ability to build on skills developed as an entry level/Librarian I
  • Ability to interpret library policies and procedures for the public
  • Proficient in the use of automated systems
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance on computers in a networked environment
  • Knowledgeable in accepted library practice, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledgeable in library administrative practices
  • Demonstrates an ability to interact with a diverse population
  • Proficient in the use of current technology common to a library environment
  • Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and through the written word
  • Ability to plan, train, and coordinate the work of others
  • Strong commitment to public service
  • Ability to speak a second language is a plus, but not required
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s License

Hours & Compensation:

  • $91,318.00 per year; full-time, union position.
