Digital Archivist Consultant, Nurse Practitioner History Conservancy (NPHxC), (Boston, MA)

Job Description:

Conduct an initial assessment for the potential scope of archival work by a Digital Archivist for the Nurse Practitioner History Conservancy (NPHxC). The Time limited Digital Archivist will provide guidance in parameters for the scope of a nurse practitioner digital archiving project which will be undertaken by a longer-term, Project Digital Archivist.

The ultimate position will involve preserving and providing digital access to historical documents, published and unpublished articles, white papers, audiovisual materials and other archival material related to nurse practitioners and advanced practice nursing. Time range: 1950s to present day.

Position Duties:

Anticipated Key Responsibilities of Project Digital Archivist:

  • Digital Preservation: Protect electronic records, images, datasets, and videos from data degradation or obsolescence.
  • Digitization: Convert physical documents, books, or photographs into high-quality digital formats.
  • Metadata Management: Create standardized finding aids, metadata schemas, descriptions, and controlled vocabularies so files are easy to search.
  • Policy Development: Work with ENP network to assure a system for ingesting, storing, backing up, and migrating digital assets.
  • Collaboration: Partner with nurse historians and ENP IT specialists to maintain cloud storage and security protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Education: MLS in A master’s degree in Library Science (MLS), Archival Studies, or Information Management or close to completion in a graduate program for same. Preference for candidates with knowledge of or interest in nursing history.
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems and databases.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills to track file formats, data integrity, and storage allocations
  • Independence: Takes initiative in creating a unique digitized system for storing and accessing nurse practitioner NPHxC archives.
  • Collaborative Skills: Capacity to work collaboratively with professional nursing historian colleagues.

Hours & Compensation:

Hourly rate: $45 – $55. Reports to Sue Hagedorn, NPHxC. This initial work is anticipated to require about 20 – 30 hours, to be determined in cooperation with project leaders.
