Aurora House Foundation, Inc. is a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing affordable, temporary housing for families traveling to Boston Children’s Hospital for pediatric medical care. The organization is in an active growth phase, building out infrastructure, funding, and partnerships ahead of opening its first house. This internship will provide research that directly informs the organization’s program design, funding strategy, and growth planning.
Aurora House is seeking a motivated individual intern to support the organization’s research and evaluation efforts, with a primary focus on sector research and needs assessment alongside broader development support. This is a hands-on role for a student interested in nonprofit research, public health, or program evaluation who wants real experience shaping an early-stage nonprofit’s evidence base.
Responsibilities
Research & Evaluation (primary focus)
- Research comparable pediatric hospital hospitality houses (e.g., Ronald McDonald House) to inform program design and best practices
- Research the needs of families traveling to Boston Children’s Hospital, including geographic patterns and length-of-stay considerations
- Support the design of surveys and feedback tools to measure family and donor outcomes
- Compile sector research on nonprofit housing models, funding trends, and the financial burden of medical travel
- Assist with data analysis and reporting to support grant applications and board reporting
Organizational & Development Support
- Support research for grant prospecting, including funder alignment and eligibility review
- Assist with drafting research summaries for board and funder materials
- Support data collection and organization for the income/expense tracker and donor database
- Assist with preparing materials for fundraising events as needed
Hours and Compensation
Reports to: Ally Teague, Founder
Time commitment: 2-5 hours/week, flexible around class schedule
Format: Primarily remote, with occasional availability for local events or meetings as needed
Term: Fall semester (September–December)
Compensation: Unpaid, for academic credit through Simmons University.
