About the Role


This is a part-time 18-hour/week position with pro-rated sick and personal leave time. We are looking for candidates who can fulfill the following time slots: Mondays (9-1:30), Wednesdays and Thursdays (4:30-9:00), alternating Fridays (12-4:30) and alternating Saturdays (9-1:30). We’re excited to invite an enthusiastic candidate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a
positive, can-do attitude, be flexible, and be ready to step up when needed, all while being passionate about serving families and youth of all ages. The successful candidate will remain calm under pressure in busy, fast-paced environments.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons at public desks in locating and using library materials
  • Charge, discharge, reserve, and renew library materials, including the Library of Things and museum passes
  • Register new patrons and address basic account questions
  • Perform various clerical tasks, such as preparing information packets and directing phone calls to the appropriate department
  • Answer general and directional questions
  • Explain library policies and handle confidential patron information
  • Assist with library programs and activities as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Proven customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public and fellow
  • team members
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with social media preferred
  • Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS) platform is preferred
  • Knowledge of current public library circulation practices preferred
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to multitask in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Capability to assist patrons with some readers’ advisory services
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a focus on follow-up
  • Dependable and consistent attendance demonstrated in previous work experience
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, move loaded book carts, lift boxes up to 20 pounds, and reach shelves with or without ladders/stools


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred; library students who have completed a reference course are encouraged to apply
  • Previous library experience using an automated integrated library system, personal computers, and electronic databases is preferred
  • A strong sense of professionalism, initiative, and independence are essential


Salary


$26.96/hour (current contract)
