The Holliston Public Library is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time, non-union position of Supervisor, Circulation & Teen Services. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience working with children, tweens, teens, or young adults who is ready to take on a leadership role in a welcoming, community-focused library.
This is a dynamic position in a small-town library where no two days are the same and staff members wear many hats. Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Supervisor of Circulation and Teen Services oversees all circulation operations, supervises circulation staff, manages the library’s website and social media presence, and develops, implements, and evaluates programs, services, and collections for tweens and teens. The position also produces the library’s bi-monthly print and online newsletter, helping to promote library services, events, and community engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
CIRCULATION & PUBLIC SERVICES
- Supervise daily operations of the circulation desk and ensure high-quality patron service.
- Provide prompt, courteous assistance to patrons regarding library materials, equipment, technology, and services.
- Manage circulation functions, including patron records, fines, lost and damaged materials, and circulation reports using Sierra.
- Oversee collection maintenance activities, including weeding, inventory, and shelf management.
- Guide staff in shelving, book repair, book drop processing, and opening and closing procedures.
- Serves as point person for community book clubs.
COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING
- Maintain and update the library website and digital sign with current information and resources.
- Develop and manage social media content to promote library programs, services, and events.
- Create promotional materials and displays using Canva and other design tools.
- Produce and distribute the library’s bi-monthly newsletter and other marketing materials.
TEEN SERVICES
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of services and programs for young adults.
- Conduct community needs assessments and use findings to develop responsive programs, services, and collections.
- Curate the teen print and digital collections to ensure they reflect community interests and needs.
- Provide reader’s advisory services and coordinate teen book club.
- Plan and deliver educational, recreational, and enrichment programs that support connected learning and foster teen engagement.
- Maintain a welcoming, safe, and orderly Teen Zone environment.
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers assigned to teen services.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Serve as the library liaison to Holliston Middle School, Holliston High School, and organizations serving youth.
- Develop partnerships with schools, community agencies, Youth and Family Services, and other stakeholders to support teen programs and services.
- Engage community experts, mentors, and volunteers to enhance library offerings for teens.
LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION
- Supervise library technicians and pages, including assigning and reviewing work, training staff, and contributing to performance evaluations.
- Generate and analyze circulation statistics, financial reports, and other operational data.
- Participate as a member of the library management team through staff meetings, planning initiatives, and organizational projects.
- Maintain professional knowledge through conferences, workshops, committee participation, and professional literature.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of adolescent developmental, educational, and recreational needs. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in teen library services, including ALA and YALSA guidelines.
- Knowledge of library operations, circulation procedures, integrated library systems, information technology, and digital resources.
- Knowledge of community engagement, program evaluation, and outcomes assessment methods.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Canva, social media platforms, and web content management tools.

- Develop innovative services and programs that respond to teen interests and community needs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patrons, schools, community organizations, and volunteers.

SUPERVISION
Works under the general direction of the library director. Supervises library technicians, pages, and assigned volunteers.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Personal computers and peripherals, library management software, web content management tools, Canva, standard office equipment, and non-motorized equipment such as book carts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a public library setting with frequent interaction with patrons. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent standing, sitting, listening, speaking, and computer use.
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry library materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Visual acuity for reading materials and computer screens.
- Manual dexterity for keyboarding and handling library materials.
- Sufficient mobility to move throughout the library and perform assigned duties.
Qualifications
Required: A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program. One or more years of professional library experience. Experience working with young adults (ages 10–18). Supervisory experience preferred.
