Library Student Worker, UConn Health (Farmington, CT)

UConn Health Center is looking to add a part-time, temporary, Student Worker position to our Library. The Student Worker will assist full-time Information Desk staff, mornings, evenings, and weekends, which allows the UConn Health Sciences Library to remain open over 90 hours per week year-round. Please note this is not a summer job.

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES:

  • Information Desk coverage.
  • Shelving library materials.
  • Stack maintenance.
  • Patron assistance.
  • Departmental projects.
  • Special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and be enrolled in one of the following degree programs – Associate, Bachelor or Master’s.
  • Computer skills, searching skills.
  • Ability to learn, remember and follow complex instructions and policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability and attention to detail.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience working as a library page or assistant.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to verify current student status in formal accredited program upon hire. Acceptable documentation to include either a letter from academic advisor on letterhead; or a course schedule listing current term of enrollment, name of educational institute and student’s name.
  • Must be able to work nights (5:00 pm – 11:00pm Monday through Thursday, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday) and weekends (10:00 am – 3:00 pm or 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm) during the academic year. Mornings as needed. Must also be able to work during the summer (5:00 pm – 8:00 pm), around holidays and other various hours as needed.

SCHEDULE: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week, various days and hours. Must be available to work at least two shifts during the week and one on weekends. This is a temporary position.

SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $16.94. This position is not eligible for benefits.
