Fall 2026 Internships, The LGBTQ Religious Archives Network, (Remote)

Position Description:

The LGBTQ Religious Archives Network (LGBTQ-RAN) is inviting applications for two part-time internships in the fall of 2026. Each internship is for an average of 10 hours a week for 13 weeks in September, October and November. These remote internships are intended for students or recent graduates seeking to develop skills in preserving and studying LGBTQ religious history.

The LGBTQ Religious Archives Network (www.lgbtqreligiousarchives.org) is an innovative venture in preserving history and encouraging scholarly study of LGBTQ religious movements around the world. LGBTQ-RAN has a two-fold basic purpose. First it assists LGBTQ religious leaders and groups in determining how best to preserve their records and papers in appropriate repositories. Secondly, LGBTQ-RAN provides an electronic information clearinghouse for these archival collections and other historical data—such as biographical profiles, oral histories and digital exhibitions—about LGBTQ religious history for the use of
historians, researchers and other interested persons.

Position Duties:

The Taxonomy Revision and Standardization Intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and revising the extant tagging system utilized by LGBTQ-RAN to align with external standards, including LCSH and Homosaurus;
  • Identifying additional external standards that can be utilized to better tag LGBTQ-RAN materials, e.g., religious denominational subject headings;
  • Identifying and applying additional headings from external standards to enrich existing collection description.

The Multi-Media & Research Assistant Intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and assisting in the development of short historical presentations in a variety of formats–audio, video or text—for LGBTQ-RAN’s October 2026 GALA event;
  • Researching and updating the Book Shelf on the LGBTQ-RAN website; and
  • Other research into queer religious history as mutually agreed with intern and supervisor.

Hours & Compensation:

The interns will participate in LGBTQ-RAN staff meetings via videoconference every 3 weeks. The interns will provide their own office and equipment needed to carry out their work. Each intern will receive a stipend of $1,800.

How To Apply:

To apply for an internship, interested individuals should provide a cover letter and resume detailing relevant education and experience. Please send these as email attachments to Ellen Huffman, Administrative Assistant, at [email protected] and indicate which intern position you are applying for in the email subject line.

Applications accepted through July 31, 2026.
