Library Director, Elizabeth Taber Library (Marion, MA)

The Trustees of the Elizabeth Taber Library are seeking a dynamic Library Director to progressively develop the Library and its culture, and to champion the evolving and increasingly important role of the library in the Marion community.

Position Overview

The Library Director provides strategic leadership and oversees all aspects of library operations, ensuring alignment with the Library’s mission and long-term goals. This individual will serve as a visible community leader, driving innovation, strengthening partnerships, and enhancing the Library’s role as a vital, forward-thinking resource.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Establish and communicate a clear, community-centered vision for the Library
  • Lead strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Monitor trends and implement innovative library services and programs

Operations & Financial Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, budgeting, and financial stewardship
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and long-term financial strategies
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies

Community Engagement

Serve as the public face and advocate for the Library
Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders
Develop programs and services that reflect the needs and interests of the community

Board Relations

  • Partner closely with the Board of Trustees, providing regular updates and strategic insights
  • Implement Board policies and support informed decision-making

People Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and support library staff
  • Oversee hiring, performance management, and organizational structure
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and professional growth

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program or related advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in a public library setting
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Budgeting and financial management
    • Staff leadership and organizational development
    • Strategic planning and execution
    • Community engagement and partnership building
    • Technology and library systems

Technology

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office tools
  • Familiarity with library systems and networks (e.g., SAILS, CLAMS, Minuteman, OCLN, CW Mars)

Salary Range – based on experience
$75,000 – $82,000
