High School Librarian, Shepherd Hill Regional High School (Dudley, MA)

Essential Functions:
Provides students (grades 9-12) with an enriched positive library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials in all formats that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources. The librarian/media teacher works closely with staff and students to link information resources and technology to the objectives of the Massachusetts Frameworks and the local curricula.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher, appropriate licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Education certification, strong interpersonal skills, resourcefulness and creative artistic abilities necessary.

Responsibilities:
At his/her assigned school and in accordance with the provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and applicable regulations, the administrator’s duties shall include:

  • Coordinate the Library Program
  • Provide volunteer training
  • Communicate with students, teachers, parents, and principal about all aspects of the library program
  • Collaborate with the principal to design, distribute, and analyze a student/staff survey to obtain information to be used when updating the book collection
  • Assist with the compilation of book orders to update book collection
  • Maintain library collection data base (inventory and process new books)
  • Inform staff/students of new books as they are processed
  • Organize the bookshelves / Change the books on display
  • Teach students to use the computerized catalog system
  • Maintain library supplies / Repair books
  • Reinforce library and research skills to students.
  • Foster a love of reading in our children and make the library a special place for them to visit!
  • Actively engage in ongoing professional development activity, at least to the minimum required for progress on the local salary scale as described in the collective bargaining agreement, and to maintain state certification (recertification), including an Individual Professional Development Plan approved by the principals.

Conditions of Employment: The physical demands of this teaching position are representative of those that must be met by a library/media specialist, although reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this position, the teacher is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, see, speak and hear. The teacher is periodically required to reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. He/she must occasionally lift and or move up to twenty five pounds, tolerate occasional loud noise levels, and possess good physical endurance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and distance vision.

  • Essential Functions: Ability to plan and effectively deliver instruction in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework; while providing a suitable learning environment, supervision and motivation of assigned pupils.

    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher, appropriate licensure from the Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education. Strong interpersonal skills, resourcefulness and creativity, as well as sound professional ethics are necessary.
