Student Success Librarian (Tenure Track Senior Assistant Librarian), California State Polytechnic University, Pamona, (Pomona, CA)

Job Description:

The University Library at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for the position of Student Success Librarian, Tenure Track Senior Assistant Librarian effective Fall 2026. The Student Success Librarian plays a crucial role in the University Library’s Research & Instruction Services (RIS) Unit. The Student Success Librarian is a newly established position within the University Library that reports to the Dean of the University Library. In support of CPP’s commitment to enhancing undergraduate retention and academic success, the librarian will leverage expertise in adaptive and responsive teaching and learning, instructional design, student development, innovative outreach, and community-building to guide students in navigating academic and library resources that foster flexible, career-integrated learning and lifelong learning. This role involves active collaboration with faculty, departments, and campus programs, along with a strong understanding of the broader institutional context, to advance student success and workforce preparedness. The librarian will serve as the primary liaison to the Departments of Communication, Economics, English & Modern Languages, and Philosophy within the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences.

The Student Success Librarian is responsible for direct outreach to assigned disciplinary areas and to faculty in related disciplines, participates in library outreach activities, and helps to design and deliver public programming. In addition, the subject librarian facilitates communication between the University Library and assigned departments in support of student success and faculty productivity. Working in alignment with Cal Poly Pomona’s commitment to creating and sustaining an inclusive campus climate in which all are welcomed, respected and where diversity is valued, the Student Success Librarian assists with supporting and improving programs, services, content, and collections to meet the needs of the institution and library users.

Qualifications:

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library or information science or equivalent from a library school program accredited by the American Library Association (degree must be awarded prior to date of hire).
  • Coursework, robust knowledge of, or experience in delivering information literacy instruction and reference services that support student learning and success.  
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a multicultural/multiethnic campus environment with a substantial first-generation student population.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity. Evidence should be provided in a Teaching Philosophy Statement that addresses Cal Poly Pomona’s commitment to excellence in education.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree OR advanced graduate degree in Communication, Economics, English & Modern Languages, or Philosophy or a related field.
    • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and applying inclusive pedagogies and teaching practices in delivering information literacy instruction and reference services through various modes that support student learning and success.
    • Demonstrated experience fostering library partnerships (departments, faculty, student groups, centers, etc.) that support student retention and success.
    • Demonstrated experience supporting and improving programs, services, content, and collections to meet the needs of the institution and library users. 
    • Demonstrated commitment to establish and sustain an ongoing scholarship record.

      Hours & Compensation:

      Tenured/Tenure-Track, Full Time, On-site

      Salary Range: $85,000 – $89,796
