Job Description:
The Manager of Library Programs and Partnerships helps the library reach people through innovative library programs, outreach initiatives, and strong community partnerships. This role provides system-wide leadership, works closely with Library Administration, and guides a team of four who support outreach and program development. The manager grows resources through sponsorships and evaluates results to support continuous improvement.
Position Duties:
Department Leadership
- Lead programming and outreach services across the library system
- Supervise staff and support planning and coordination of systemwide activities
- Set priorities, standards, and best practices for library programs
- Work with leadership on strategic goals and system initiatives
- Coordinate with departments such as Communications for marketing and patron engagement
- Review and approve program content for marketing and publicity
- Review results and support continuous improvement of programs and services
Programming and Planning
- Set priorities and guidelines for consistent, high-quality programs across branches
- Support staff as they plan and evaluate programs and events
- Lead planning and coordination of major library events and festivals
- Review and approve program content for marketing and publicity
Partnerships and Community Relations
- Serve as the main contact for the Friends of the Library groups
- Build partnerships with schools, nonprofits, cultural groups, and local agencies
- Represent the library at community events and outreach activities
- Work with partners to develop programs that meet community needs
Resource Development
- Identify sponsors and grant opportunities
- Help prepare funding applications and required reports
- Work with leadership to expand resources to support programming
Evaluation and Administration
- Collect and analyze program data, attendance, and feedback
- Prepare reports that show program results and community impact
- Manage budgets, contracts, and supply purchases for programming
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science, or a closely related field from an accredited graduate library school program
- Requires three years of progressively responsible experience in professional library work, including library programming, and three years’ experience in event programming/coordinating, community outreach, or closely related professional work
- Requires 1 year of supervisory experience
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required
Preferred Requirements:
- Prefer a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited graduate library school program
- Prefer at least 5 years of experience in event programming/coordinating, community outreach, or closely related professional work
- Prefer at least 3 years of supervisory experience
Extra Skills
- Knowledge of a variety of interests of patrons of different ages and backgrounds
- Knowledge of library budgeting and related financial management practices
- Ability to plan, organize, supervise and evaluate the work of professional and support staff
- Ability to become proficient with existing technology systems, software and computer equipment used by the library system and adapt to new technology developments and changes
- Ability to exercise independent judgment
- Spanish speaking is a plus. Ability to relate positively to a diverse population, including children, teens, seniors and speakers of languages other than English
Hours & Compensation:
Work Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly, hours and days will vary to include evenings, Saturdays and some Sundays. The County may require employees to make either a temporary or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to accommodate the organization’s business needs
Salary: $95,000.00 – $120,000.00 Annually
