Job Description:

Boston College Libraries are seeking an Instruction and Research Services Librarian to join the Burns Library Public Services Department.  As a member of the Burns Library Public Services Department, this position contributes to a robust archives/special collections instruction program and supervises and contributes to special collections/archives access and research services at Burns Library. This position is highly collaborative throughout the Libraries, particularly in the cohort (which consists of the Digital Scholarship Group, instruction team, and subject liaisons), as well as across campus.

The Instruction and Research Services Librarian provides in-depth reference services onsite and remotely to meet the needs of a wide range of researchers. They assist  a diverse constituency of researchers in navigating Burns Library collections by conducting research consultations and in-depth reference interviews and by assisting researchers in using finding aids, the library catalog, and other discovery tools. This position also  provides  face-to-face classroom instruction, collaborates with faculty on class objectives and material selection, and provides logistical support for the larger archives/special collections instruction program

The ideal candidate will have a passion for primary source instruction, scholarly research, and welcoming diverse communities to archives and special collections. The position collaborates closely with the Head of User Engagement and Burns Library Public Services and the other  Instruction and Research Services Librarian to create, update, and maintain research and reference policies, library web pages, documentation, and training tools that promote and facilitate access to archives/special collections resources, research services, and instructional services. 

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and full-time equivalent hiring ranges:

  • Senior Librarian: $76,050 – $95,050; 5+ years related professional experience
  • Librarian: $68,950 – $86,200; 3-5 years related professional experience
  • Associate Librarian: $62,350 – $77,950; 1-3 years experience

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science;  second graduate degree and/or graduate work beyond MLS. 
  • A minimum of one year of experience in providing research, instruction, and outreach services in an archives or special collections library setting. 
  • Experience in: Creating and delivering archives/special collections instructional services in person and virtually, Providing in-depth research services in person and virtually, Project management and logistics, Application of teaching and pedagogical theory.
