Reference Librarian, Bedford Public Library, (Bedford, NH)

The Bedford Public Library seeks a flexible and creative professional librarian to work full time in our Reference and Information Services Department and assist with adult and young adult services, including programs.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist patrons of all ages with print and electronic resources, including online databases, Aspen online catalog, and the Library’s eBook services at the reference desk (approximately 20-25 hours per week).
  • Provide readers advisory.
  • Participate in collection development.
  • Participate in marketing, social media, and community outreach.
  • Work as a team with reference librarians to create and implement programs and events for adults and teens.
  • Oversee teen volunteers.

Qualifications

Applicants must have proficiency with technology, including social media, tablet computers, virtual meeting platforms, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of the Polaris ILS is helpful. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when responding to patron queries. The ability to multitask and complete long-term tasks, while responding to questions at the Reference Desk, is essential. Experience developing programs and marketing library services is helpful. A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school is required; MLS candidates who have completed their reference coursework may be considered.

Hours and Compensation

Schedule: Full-time

The full-time position will require one night per week, one Saturday per month, and one Sunday alternating months in a rotation. The Library is open to the public 62 hours per week. The Bedford Public Library is part of the GMILCS, Inc. consortium.

Salary: $25.38-$37.69
