Collection Services Manager, Springfield-Greene County Library District, (Springfield, MO)

The Collection Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic development and management of library collections. This includes leading the selection, acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of materials to meet the information needs of library users. The manager plays a key role in setting collection development policies, evaluating resource allocation, and staying informed about emerging trends in library materials and formats. Additionally, they supervise collection services staff, Interlibrary Loan Coordinator and coordinate with subject specialists, collaborate with vendors and publishers to optimize the library’s collection. This role requires strong leadership, expertise in collection management principles, and a deep understanding of user needs and information resources.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Collection Services staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborates closely with Interlibrary Loan department and has management responsibilities for the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive collection development plan for a multi-facility Library district
  • Evaluates, selects and deselects materials across print, digital, and multimedia formats
  • Monitors usage data, community demographics, and trends to guide purchasing decisions.
  • Ensures collections are diverse, inclusive, and responsive to community needs
  • Effectively manages Collections budget including Electronic Resources
  • Coordinates cataloging and metadata standards to ensure discoverability and maintain standards and best practices
  • Leads training for Collection Services topics
  • Coordinates planning and execution of shelving layout and spaces for collection related moves
  • Oversees inventory processes and loss prevention strategies.
  • Represents collection services interests on various internal and external committees
  • Responds to patron feedback and requests regarding materials
  • Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
  • Consistently punctual for work and meetings. Completes assigned duties in a timely manner.
  • Exemplifies professional attitude and demeanor while engaging constituents, including the ability to work and interact with others in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of collection development principles and trends
  • Expansive knowledge of integrated library systems (ILS) and digital resource platforms
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited program
  • 3-5 years progressively responsible library experience, including collection development
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Hours and Compensation

Salary: $64,729.60 to $111,633.60 per year

This is a full-time exempt position, approximately 40 hours per week. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.  Excellent Full-Time Benefits include vacation, sick and holiday pay, medical, dental, vision life and long-term disability insurances, and retirement plans.
