Evidence Synthesis Internship, Baylor University Libraries (Remote)

The Baylor University Evidence Synthesis Internship is a 12-month, remote professional development opportunity designed for current library and information science students or recent graduates seeking advanced training in evidence synthesis methods. Through mentorship from Baylor’s Evidence Synthesis Community of Practice members, the intern will complete professional training (Medical Library Association’s Systematic Review Services Specialization (SRSS) certification, level 1), participate in active review projects, develop and deliver an instructional workshop, and contribute to library evidence synthesis resources.
The internship will take place from June through May with an expectation of 3-5 hours per week. The intern will be expected to
- Attend online monthly Evidence Synthesis Community of Practice Meetings
- Complete MLA training (14 courses) by December
- Complete additional training exercises tailored to the intern’s interest/experience as assigned by the training supervisor by February
- Shadow at least one review by
- attending at least 3 consultations with the researcher(s)
- meeting at least once with the assigned librarian to discuss search strategies and techniques
- meeting at least once with the assigned librarian to discuss databases and/or translation
- Develop a search for a review under the supervision of an experienced librarian by
- leading at least one consultation with the researcher(s)
- creating the conceptional search strategy
- using advanced search techniques to create and translate the search
- Update/proofread the Evidence Synthesis Canvas Course during the spring
- Teach a workshop either synchronously or asynchronously on an evidence synthesis topic during the spring. This workshop will be recorded and added to the library’s collection of ES workshops.
Duration: One year (June-June)
Modality: Remote
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled in an MLS/MIS/MLIS program or have graduated within in the last 5 months of the internship start date. Internship may count toward MLS/MIS/MLIS practicum requirements if applicable. Interns will be required to join the Medical Library Association (MLA) before the start of the internship.
Professional Development Support (provided by Baylor University Libraries): Funding for MLA Systematic Review Services Specialization (SRSS) Level I certification.
Mentorship: Provided by Baylor’s Evidence Synthesis Community of Practice, offering exposure to ES work in STEM, health sciences, social sciences, and data sciences.
