Description
The Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America seeks an end processing assistant to support the Lead Project Archivist and the Project Archivist for the Radcliffe College Archives Project.
Responsibilities
In advance of the 150th anniversary of Radcliffe College, the Schlesinger Library is implementing a four-year project to process selected record groups from the Radcliffe College Archives. The end processing assistant will support the Lead Project Archivist and the Project Archivist with the end processing of Record Groups within the Radcliffe College Archives Project. Work will include reboxing material, numbering folders and entering those numbers into EAD finding aids, separating and filing fragile (photocopied) materials, restricted materials, and photographs, labeling and barcoding boxes, shelving collections or preparing them for transfer to the Harvard Depository. End processing assistant may also assist with arrangement and description of smaller record groups. This is a part time, temporary non-benefited position. It has been approved through June 2026, with the possibility for an extension contingent upon continued funding.
Qualifications
- Completion of, or current enrollment in, introductory graduate-level archives coursework (e.g., Simmons LIS 438 and/or 440), or equivalent coursework or experience in archives or special collections.
- Experience handling special collections materials
- Sensitivity to proper care and handling of special collections materials
- Able to commit to a set weekly schedule
- Aptitude for detail, accuracy, and efficiency; good organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
Hours and Compensation
Duration: March 2026 – 6/30/2026
Schedule: 14 hours a week. Hours must be completed in two 7-hour days, Monday-Friday, between 9am and 5pm
Compensation: $21 per hour
