Summary:

The Library of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is seeking an Intern to assist the Library Supervisor in the following activities:

  1. creating a metadata object description schema (MODS) for historical photographs in preparation for digitization
  2. classifying, weeding, and digitizing an extensive research file collection
  3. assisting in the daily operation of a small, governmental Special Library.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and record metadata for historic photograph digitization project in MODS.
  • Organize, classify and digitize print documents from a print research files collection.
  • Learn daily library operations in a special library setting.
  • Serve a wide variety of personnel in reference requests as needed.
  • Provide additional support to Library Supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science Master’s degree program.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed organizational skills with a thorough attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Internship duration: May – December

Hours and Compensation:

  • $23.00 per hour
  • Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm
  • The position is a six-month paid internship at the MWRA’s Chelsea office. It is a full-time and in-person schedule, with flexibility.
