Internships, Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters NHS (Cambridge, MA)

Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters NHS in Cambridge is currently recruiting for three summer and fall internship positions. These full-time, paid internships are great opportunities for students or recent graduates interested in a career in public history or museums and archives. 

Interns are compensated $18.50/hour, plus an $875/month housing stipend, professional development stipend, and PTO.

Digital Archives Intern – 1200 hours (National Council for Preservation Education)

Internship Dates: May 26 – December 18, 2026

The Digital Archives Intern will gain valuable experience in museum collections and archives management while also providing public access to the historic archival and photograph collections of Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site.

The intern’s primary project will be preparing digitized material from the archival collections for upload to the site’s Digital Archive Portal on NP Gallery.  This internship is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to museums, land management agencies, and networking with professionals. The intern will work under the supervision of the archivist and work closely as a team with NPS curatorial staff.

Family & Community Programs Intern – 520 hours (National Council for Preservation Education)

The Family & Community Programs Intern will gain valuable experience in museum education and community programs. The intern’s primary project will be leading the site’s Sunday outdoor programming for families with young children. The Family & Community Programs Intern will also support signature community events, including the site’s annual Summer Arts Festival, Juneteenth Gathering, Washington’s Arrival event, and participation in off-site community festivals. The intern will work under the supervision of the Interpretive Supervisor and collaborate closely as a team with NPS interpretation staff.  

250th Civics Education Intern – 1000 hours (National Council for Preservation Education)

Internship Dates: May 28-November 13, 2026

The 250th Civics Education Intern will gain valuable experience in public history and interpretive writing. The intern’s primary project will be leading the redevelopment and adaptation of the site’s “Road to Revolution” junior ranger book into a digital format. The 250th Civics Education Intern will also support signature community events, including the site’s annual Summer Arts Festival, Juneteenth Gathering, Washington’s Arrival event, and participation in off-site community festivals. The intern will work under the supervision of the Interpretive Supervisor and collaborate closely as a team with NPS interpretation staff.
