Part-Time Evening-Weekend Circulation Desk Coordinator, Framingham State University, (Framingham, MA)

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Access Services Librarian, the Evening/Weekend Circulation Desk Coordinator is responsible for supporting our students, faculty, and administrators with accessing relevant resources and technologies in Whittemore Library.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor the evening/weekend use of the library, providing a quiet secure environment for study space and access to various resources.
  • Know and apply library procedures and standards.
  • Check library materials in and out, register new library patrons, and assist patrons with locating library materials and placing library holds.
  • Provide task instruction and demonstration to student assistants in accordance with library procedures and standards.
  • Collect building statistics.
  • Monitor library activities and reporting any unusual situations to the Campus Police.
  • Lock front doors at closing/ open doors at opening.
  • Answer phone inquiries and assist in-house library patrons.
  • Communicate regularly with the Access Services Librarian and/or the Library Dean regarding any special instructions or information.
  • During summer and other breaks, assist with shelving and paging during hours that the library is open.
  • Assign student assistants stack duties, monitor their progress, and make sure they finish all tasks assigned.
  • Solicit substitutes for students who are unexpectedly absent using student contact list.
  • Create nightly/daily report of activities and observations to be emailed for the Dean and Access Services Librarian.
  • Provide feedback on student assistants to Access Services Librarian to be considered in evaluation of student assistants in November each year.
  • Perform other related job duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of customer service and experience dealing with the public.
  • Awareness of library procedures and ability to resolve patron issues.
  • Dependable and reliable attendance.
  • Pleasant and courteous customer service attitude.

Hours and Compensation:

This is a part-time, non-benefited contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The scheduled hours are flexible. The pay rate is $18 per hour.
