The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is a nonprofit subsidiary of the Knights of Columbus. It advances the vision and example of Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael McGivney (1852-1890). The Center welcomes visitors to learn about his life and legacy, imitate his generous outreach to the needy and marginalized, and invoke his heavenly intercession. The Visitor Services Assistant (VSA) is responsible for facilitating daily Visitor Services at the McGivney Center, ensuring the visitor experience is consistently outstanding. VSAs are tasked with engaging with the public in order to provide an educational, safe and memorable experience. VSAs also perform reception duties (which may include in-person, telephone, video or email requests), assist gift shop operations when and other related tasks per instruction of supervisors. Regular weekend and holiday shifts and occasional evening events are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional, efficient, and approachable support and excellent customer service
  • Welcomes visitors upon arrival; orients them to the McGivney Center and informs them of exhibits and activities available
  • Responds to visitor questions or requests
  • Alerts security staff of emergencies or public safety concerns
  • Reports concerns, problems or visitor issues in a prompt, efficient manner.
  • Facilitates video and interactive presentations when required
  • Conducts in-person tours and offsite or online (virtual) presentations pertaining to McGivney Center exhibits
  • Coordinates and cooperates with Knights of Columbus employees and contracted staff to ensure smooth visitor operations and good visitor experience
  • Assists with special events and performs other duties as may reasonably be required
  • Serves as back up to Gift Shop Services

Qualifications

Required:

  • Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills
  • Confidence speaking publicly and ability to work with groups of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to interact in professional demeanor with visitors and other staff members
  • Must be responsible, flexible, punctual and able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work weekend and holiday shifts, and extended hours if required
  • Comfortable familiarity with Father Michael McGivney, the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Church history.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English; fluency in other languages, especially Spanish, is beneficial

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in cash handling preferred

Education

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED

Hours and Compensation

The position is full time permanent, Wednesday – Sunday from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Must be able to work weekend and holiday shifts, and extended hours if required.

The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location.  At the Knights of Columbus, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $46,000 – $79,000.
