Description
New England Archivists invites applications for three annual professional development awards. The A/V Professional Development Award, Richard W. Hale, Jr. Professional Development Award, and the Richard L. Haas Records Management Award provide funding that may be used for training, conference attendance, and more.
Audio/Visual Professional Development Award
First awarded in 2016, the New England Archivists Audio/Visual (A/V) Professional Development Award is given annually to promote the professional development of members in the areas of moving image, recorded sound, and time-based media. Upon completion of the proposed activity, the recipient will submit a report on the project to the NEA Newsletter and/or will present at the next annual NEA Spring Meeting.
Completed applications are due by February 15th. Applications are reviewed and the recipient chosen by the Audio/Visual Award Committee. Applicants are informed of the Committee’s decision no later than March 1st.
Richard W. Hale, JR. Professional Development Award
First awarded in 1983, the New England Archivists Richard W. Hale, Jr. Professional Development Award of up to $1,000 is given annually to promote the professional development of archivists in the region. This award honors Dr. Richard W. Hale, Jr., who was Archivist of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1961 to 1976 and a founding member of NEA.
Completed applications are due by February 15th. Applications are reviewed and the recipient chosen by the Hale Award Committee. Applicants are informed of the Committee’s decision no later than March 1st. Upon completion of the proposed activity, the recipient will submit a report on the project to the NEA Newsletter and/or will present at the next annual NEA Spring Meeting.
Richard L. HAAS Records Management Award
First awarded in 1990, the New England Archivists Richard L. Haas Records Management Award of up to $1,000 is given annually in support of a project that promotes increased cooperation, understanding, and knowledge between the archival and records management professions. This award honors Richard L. Haas, who held records management positions at Wright State University, University of Cincinnati, and Harvard University.
Completed applications are due by February 15th. Applications are reviewed and the recipient chosen by the Haas Award Committee. Applicants are informed of the Committee’s decision no later than March 1st. Upon completion of the proposed activity, the recipient will submit a report on the project to the NEA Newsletter and/or will present at the next annual NEA Spring Meeting.
Qualifications

The A/V and Hale awards are limited to active NEA members; the Haas award is open to all practitioners, educators, and students in the areas of records management and archives in New England.
