Records Management Intern, MIT Libraries, (Cambridge, MA)

MIT Libraries’ Department of Distinctive Collections (DDC) is seeking candidates for an on-site 10-hour per week Records Management internship. The Records Management Intern will assist the Institute Archives & Records Management Program (IARM) with a variety of projects including outreach, records inventories, and collections development. The intern will work 10 hours per week on-site (Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA) through the end of June 2026. Hours can be scheduled Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with the exception of Institute holidays.
Duties:
- Help prepare training materials and other resources to promote records management best practices.
- Perform records management-related research and benchmarking.
- Identify and inventory Institute publications and websites to target for collection.
- Create records inventories and review those submitted by originating office stakeholders to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with retention schedules.
- Process submissions to MIT Libraries’ digital repository (DSpace).
- Complete other projects that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in Library and Information Science, Records Management, or Archives.
- Completion of introductory archives and records management coursework.
- Experience working with confidential information responsibly and in accordance with privacy and ethical guidelines.
- Strong research, analysis, and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel and Word).
- Ability to work independently.
Compensation: $18/hour. Not eligible for benefits.
