Data and Digital Strategy Internship, State Library of Massachusetts, (Boston, MA)

Seeking a detail-oriented library science student to support a limited-term digital cleanup project focused on reviewing, organizing, and standardizing large sets of files stored on external hard drives. The work requires exceptional attention to detail, comfort with repetitive tasks, and an aptitude for creating clear, consistent structure out of unorganized or inconsistently labeled digital materials. Ideal candidates will be methodical, patient, and able to apply metadata and organizational standards reliably across large volumes of content.


Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess large volumes of files stored across multiple external hard drives.
  • Develop and implement consistent naming conventions and folder hierarchies.
  • Locate and address duplicate files, errors, and organizational inconsistencies.
  • Document processes, workflows, and organizational structure for institutional continuity and recordkeeping.
  • Identify and flag anomalies, missing content, or items requiring follow-up.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and overall integrity of all data.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Library and Information Science program.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable with repetitive, focused tasks that require intense concentration.
  • Familiarity with file management, metadata concepts, and digital organization best practices.
  • Clear written communication skills for documenting processes.
  • Ability to work independently and seek clarification when needed.

The salary for this position is $25 an hour. Funding is available until June 30, 2026, with the possibility of an extension.
