Description
The Harvard Art Museums Archives is the official repository for institutional records and historical documents in all formats relating to the Fogg Museum, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum, 1895 to the present. Its mission is to manage and preserve these materials and make them accessible to staff, students, faculty, and the public in accordance with the policies of the President and Fellows of Harvard College.
Duties
The Archives Student Assistant supports department staff with daily tasks including:
- Creating metadata records and digitization of archival materials
- Preparing museum records for transfer to offsite storage
- Paging and refiling archival materials
- May assist in arrangement and rehousing of archival collections and in providing reference services to researchers
- Special projects support as needed
Qualifications
Must be reliable, punctual, and organized, with precise attention to detail. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Experience with archives and archival work is strongly preferred. Experience with FileMakerPro and TMS (The Museum System) a plus.
Hours and Compensation
This is a less than half time non-benefited position, up to 7 hours per week, February-June 2026.
Hours must be completed onsite Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm. Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday availability preferred.
Please note that the museum archives are located in Somerville, MA. Our building is accessible via public transportation and there is ample free parking on-site.
Pay Rate: $20 per hour
