Job Description:
The Hadley Historical Society is seeking to hire a part-time archivist to implement collection management recommendations of the 2025 Strategic Assessment Report prepared for the Society by the State Archivist Office. The Hadley Historical Society is a small, non-profit 501(3)C organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Hadley, Massachusetts.
The work would involve organizing, rehousing, and updating inventory information of the Society’s collection of documents, photographs and artifacts and supervising interns and volunteers in this work. We are seeking candidates available to provide approximately 600 hours of work over about one year, preferably working around 10 hours per week. Work schedule is negotiable. Compensation would be in the range of $25-30 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This would be a part-time,
non-benefited position.
Requirements for Applicants: Interested candidates must be a graduate from a college or university (or enrolled at the graduate level) with a degree in information and library science, archives management, history, public history, or a related field.
Preferred candidates will have 2 years of experience as an intern or employee at a historical society, museum, library or other related organization and be familiar with archival principles, practices and standards to organize, rehouse, and manage archival collections. Familiarity and experience with creating and/or working with databases such as excel spreadsheets and/or cataloguing software programs is preferred.
Must have the ability to work independently and will need to arrange own transportation to and from the Historical Society at 12 Middle Street in Hadley.
