Job Description:
The Dean’s Fellow for Information Technology Support will be the point person for SLIS Technology technical support, application development, and maintenance of workstations, equipment, and spaces. The Fellow will be responsible for coordinating with Simmons Technology to update and maintain workstations, as well as installing and developing applications, and providing support with server maintenance tasks. The student in this position will also offer workshops, create and maintain documentation for end users, and provide other technical instruction as needed. The Dean’s Fellow works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in all aspects of pedagogical technology support, including web design and digital audio and video components. The Fellow, in conjunction with the Technology Manager, creates and maintains staffing schedules to ensure classes, events, and open lab hours are sufficiently supported. This position works independently and as part of a team. The Fellow will report to the Technology Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support Technology Manager on various projects.
  • Serve as the primary support person for all SLIS Technology spaces.
  • Monitor and respond to the SLIS Technology email inbox.
  • Manage WordPress, LibApps, and other applications – including account creation, customization, development, maintenance, and creation of new instances as needed.
  • Assist faculty, staff and students with hardware and software issues.
  • Conduct technology-related workshops for SLIS students.
  • Provide point-of-use instruction for Mac and PC hardware and software.
  • Research and test new technologies as instructed by the Technology Manager.
  • Investigate emerging technologies relevant to LAMs and SLIS Technology.
  • Train and coordinate Academic Technology Specialists (ATSs).
  • Perform additional projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Interest or experience in relational databases and networking.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of Linux, Mac, and server applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Positive, service-oriented approach when working with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and solve problems in a multi-project environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Hours: 20 hours per week for 14 weeks in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The Fellow’s work schedule will be coordinated each semester based on the student’s course schedule and SLIS needs.

Scholarship: The Fellow will receive a scholarship covering 6 credits of their Simmons tuition per semester for 4 semesters (typically fall and spring). Other expenses, such as housing or fees, are not included. Fellowships are initially offered for one year, with a strong possibility of renewal for the second year contingent upon successful job performance and maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Additionally, the Fellow is paid an hourly rate of $17.00.

Eligibility: This Fellowship is open to all students in any Master’s degree program in the School of Library and Information Science who have completed no more than 9 credits/3 courses by the start of Fall 2026, though preference will be given to incoming students.

Fellows will enroll in at least 9 credits per semester, and must able to work in-person on our Boston campus. International students are eligible. Dual degree students are eligible; though their Fellowship will not extend beyond 2 years/ 24 credits of tuition.
