Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager of Access Services, the Evening Circulation Coordinator (Temporary) is responsible for providing high quality, user-focused services to library users at Bentley University. Coordinates daily operations of front-line library services, including circulating materials, answering patron questions, stacks maintenance, data collection, building operations, and student employee oversight.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises services and operations at the Library Services desk during our late night hours, 20 hours weekly, resulting in successful patron-focused service.
- Assists with user interactions including, handling circulation functions, reference triage, and oversight of building operations.
- Communicates and enforces policies, maintains routine oversight of building operations, and safety protocols to ensure the library maintains a safe and welcoming environment.
- Answers user questions via phone, email, and chat.
- Works with sensitive and confidential information.
- Works collaboratively to develop improvements to policies and procedures resulting in better user experience.
- Assists with other projects and initiatives of the department and the library broadly.
- Participates in training and supervision of student staff.
- Documents performance issues as needed.
- Manages building access and security during late night hours.
- Ensures enforcement of policies and procedures while delivering strong customer service to users and staff.
- Understands emergency procedures, acting as the first responder to issues within the building.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
- Moderate physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting an average of 25 lbs.
Requirements
- Education: B.A./B.S. or equivalent required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to handle difficult situations
Work Experience
- Background in an academic library environment or librarianship preferred. Familiarity with an automated library system or similar system preferred.
- Ability to thoughtfully work with patrons and colleagues to resolve issues, including sensitive situations
- Supervisory experience and/or experience working with student workers preferred
