Evening Circulation Coordinator (Temporary), Bentley University Library, (Waltham, MA)

Hours: 20 hours per week; Sunday – Thursday 8pm-midnight

Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Access Services, the Evening Circulation Coordinator (Temporary) is responsible for providing high quality, user-focused services to library users at Bentley University. Coordinates daily operations of front-line library services, including circulating materials, answering patron questions, stacks maintenance, data collection, building operations, and student employee oversight.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises services and operations at the Library Services desk during our late night hours, 20 hours weekly, resulting in successful patron-focused service. 
  • Assists with user interactions including, handling circulation functions, reference triage, and oversight of building operations.
  • Communicates and enforces policies, maintains routine oversight of building operations, and safety protocols to ensure the library maintains a safe and welcoming environment. 
  • Answers user questions via phone, email, and chat. 
  • Works with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Works collaboratively to develop improvements to policies and procedures resulting in better user experience. 
  • Assists with other projects and initiatives of the department and the library broadly.
  • Participates in training and supervision of student staff. 
  • Documents performance issues as needed.
  • Manages building access and security during late night hours. 
  • Ensures enforcement of policies and procedures while delivering strong customer service to users and staff. 
  • Understands emergency procedures, acting as the first responder to issues within the building.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical/Environmental Demands: 

  • Moderate physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting an average of 25 lbs.

Requirements

  • Education: B.A./B.S. or equivalent required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to handle difficult situations

Work Experience

  • Background in an academic library environment or librarianship preferred. Familiarity with an automated library system or similar system preferred.
  • Ability to thoughtfully work with patrons and colleagues to resolve issues, including sensitive situations
  • Supervisory experience and/or experience working with student workers preferred
