Join Dartmouth Libraries as an Evening Circulation and Reserves Supervisor and play a key role in providing exceptional library service to our campus community.

In this position, you’ll supervise circulation and reserve services at Baker-Berry Library and collaborate with colleagues across departments to support the information needs of students, faculty, and staff. You’ll guide and train staff at Baker-Berry Library, create clear documentation, and ensure high-quality, consistent service—whether patrons connect with us in person, by email, or through virtual assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff. Convenes regularly scheduled staff meetings to discuss workflow, procedural, or policy changes; provides training opportunities to ensure staff are proficient in a changing environment.Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.   • Schedules staff and students at Baker-Berry Library service desks and works with other library access service points to ensure adequate coverage. Participates in all aspects of direct patron service, including information requests via email, phone, and chat services.
  • Provides direct administrative and operational support to the Baker-Berry Library Public Services Manager. Leads or assists with projects to streamline circulation and reserve workflows, improve communication across teams, and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Participates in the system-wide planning, testing, and implementation of circulation/reserve policies, procedures, and services; consults with other Access Services supervisors to coordinate shared services; works with unit supervisors throughout the Library to ensure mutually effective procedures and policies that impact circulation/reserve operations.
  • Participates in committees and task forces representing circulation and reserve services. Actively engages in ongoing professional development. Contributes to the profession through involvement in relevant regional and national professional associations.
  • Shares responsibility for overseeing building maintenance, security, and emergency planning.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors plus 3-5 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experienceAt least three years of library experience preferably in public service.
  • Excellent supervisory, organizational and communication skills.
  • Superior skills in diplomacy, conflict-resolution and consensus-building.
  • Experience using a library automated circulation system or the equivalent.

Preferred:

  • ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS.
  • Experience collecting and analysing data to inform decision making.
  • Experience with community outreach and marketing of services.

Hours and Compensation

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
  • Work Location: Fully onsite at Baker-Berry Library, Dartmouth College
  • Flexibility: May include occasional weekend assignments
  • Hiring Range: $46,500-$58,100 yearly
