Part Time Youth Services Library Assistant, Weston Public Library, (Weston, MA)

Job Description:

The Weston Library seeks a high energy, self-starter to fill an opening for a part-time Library Assistant in our busy Youth Services Department, 8-12 hours per week, occasional extra hours are possible up to a maximum of 19 hours. Evening hours and some regular weekend shifts per month as part of a rotation are required.

Duties include providing customer service for library patrons of all ages at the Youth Services Desk in person and via telephone.  This position requires flexible hours, including evening and weekend hours as needed.  Charges, discharges, renews, and shelves materials.  Collects lost item fees and updates patron records.  Assists in daily consortia delivery.  Advises library patrons of its services, resources, and policies. Supervises use of the library by children in accordance with policy. Successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, flexible team player with a strong public service attitude and good attention to detail. Works collaboratively with other departments.  Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

High school graduate, college preferred.  Experience with children (ideally in an educational or library setting), previous library experience, and knowledge of children’s literature strongly preferred. Patience, humor, and excellent customer service skills are essential.  Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Night and weekend hours required. 

Salary: 

Salary according to union contract, $25.06 per hour to start. Evening and weekend differentials.  Increase after six months.  This position is non-benefitted.
