As the Librarian, you will manage all aspects of law library operations, including legal reference and research, budget development and implementation, collection development, planning and management of library space and facilities. You may participate in contract negotiation.
On any given day, you will:
- Manage the Library’s operations including reference and research service, collection development, budget planning, and management of Library space and facilities
- Provide on-demand research service for clients, attorneys and other professionals. Promote the reference and research services to all practice groups and departments
- Assess on-going research and reference needs of attorneys and other professionals. Work with vendors to ensure timely and up-to-date training and assistance
- Maintain the library print collection by sorting, shelving, and organizing books and periodicals. Maintain electronic resources credentials and monitors usage
- Curate, classify, and maintain firmwide knowledge repositories (precedents, memos, client alerts, deal databases).
- Create taxonomies and metadata strategies to enhance document discoverability and firm knowledge sharing
- Collaborate with Seyfarth librarians, IT, OGC, and Labs to develop information retention, confidentiality, and governance policies.
- Participate in trials of new products and product enhancements. Provide feedback to vendors and colleagues as to suitability and fit.
- Help evaluate, pilot and implement AI-driven legal research tools, document summarizers and knowledge retrieval systems.
- Train attorneys and staff on using AI tools ethically and effectively in research, drafting and client service, as well as new technologies and advanced research methodologies in assigned jurisdictions where appropriate.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
- 8 – 10 years of experience
- Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, and meeting quality standards for services
- A comfort with technology and emerging trends in the legal information space, and a willingness to use new tools where appropriate
- Self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within and across departments, with all levels of personnel
