Part-Time Technology Help Desk Assistant, Darian Library, (Darien, CT)


Darien Library seeks a friendly, energetic individual with a genuine passion for helping others utilize technology. The Technology Help Desk Assistant works with patrons 1-on-1 to answer basic hardware and software questions, assist with the use of the Library’s technology, and provide a warm, welcoming environment for community members who are utilizing the Library’s spaces. The successful candidate will join a first-class team of professionals and provide top-notch customer service and technology support to Library users in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service while staffing the Technology Help Desk on the Second Floor.
  • Assist patrons’ use of the Library’s computers, network, and digital services.
  • Answer questions about software and computing platforms in a professional and courteous manner, utilizing a variety of manuals and online resources as needed.
  • Use Freshdesk (ticket system) and Polaris (Integrated Library System) to communicate with patrons, complete requested print jobs, and properly process the Library’s circulating technology.
  • Utilize the Library’s website to monitor event set-up requests to ensure on-time completion. Set up and take down audiovisual equipment for events occurring during scheduled shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and instructional skills, with a commitment to Darien Library’s “Kindness First” motto when working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex, technical concepts in simple, easy-to-understand language, and be able to help users with a variety of computing needs, from very basic to advanced.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard operating systems and software products (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator). Additionally, familiarity with the Library’s digital offerings (e.g., OverDrive/Libby, Hoopla, ComicsPlus) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain attentive while assisting multiple patrons and addressing varied needs simultaneously.
  • Bilingual candidates, or those with a functional knowledge of another language, are desirable.

Hours and Compensation:

Staff work in four-hour shifts and follow this schedule:

·         Monday—Thursday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 1 to 5 p.m.; 5 to 9 p.m.

·         Friday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 2 to 6 p.m.

·         Saturday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 1 to 5 p.m.

·         Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.

The candidate will work an average of 12-16 hours per week, including evenings and weekends, plus additional shifts as needed, not to exceed 29 hours per week. This schedule is for planning purposes only. Actual hours may vary and are subject to modification due to staffing needs, programming, or other operational demands of the Library.

Salary: $20/hour
