Library Director, Babcock Library (Ashford, CT)

Job Description:

Due to a retirement, the Babcock Library seeks an energetic Library Director for our small public library. MLS degree preferred, but may consider a candidate who holds a BA or BS degree, has recent experience working in a library, and two or more years of direct supervisory experience. This person will report directly to the Babcock Library Board of Trustees.

Babcock Library is the municipal Library for the Town of Ashford, Connecticut. The Babcock Library is a 4000 sq. ft. complex with access to a 2000 sq. ft. hall located in the building. The Library has a staff of 1 full time and 5 part-time employees.

The Library Director position is full-time, 37 hour position and may include some nights and weekends. There will also be other occasions during which the Library Director should be present, most notably at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting, and at occasional town or library events and meetings.

Personality and people skills are a must. This position involves directing and evaluating a complete range of public library services and will be responsible for implementing Board policies, human resource management, directing day-to-day operations of the library, community outreach, and overseeing technical services. Additional requirements include computer literacy, collection management, cataloging and materials evaluation, program planning, budget development, and grant writing. Knowledge of accounting software is a plus.
 

Salary & Compensation:

The salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical and dental benefits (which may require some employee contribution). The position includes two weeks’ vacation after completion of the first year. Successful candidate to begin as soon as possible.
