Processing Assistant, Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America, Harvard Radcliffe Institute (Cambridge, MA)

Job Description:
This position will assist archivists in the processing of archival collections at the Schlesinger Library. The initial project will be assisting archivists with the arrangement and description of the Lani Guinier collection. Lani Guinier was an American civil rights theorist and professor of law, who was the first woman of color appointed to a tenured position at Harvard Law School. The student assistant will be primarily responsible for describing audiovisual materials, but they will also be given additional tasks, as time allows.
Basic Qualifications:
- Completion of Simmons LIS 438 and 440 or similar graduate-level introductory archives coursework
- Experience handling special collections materials
- Sensitivity to proper care and handling of special collections materials
- Able to commit to a set weekly schedule
- Aptitude for detail, accuracy, and efficiency; good organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
- Familiarity with EAD
- This position includes lifting and moving materials weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
- This position involves frequent use of computer screen, keyboard, and mouse.
- Experience working with audiovisual materials, preferred
- Experience with Excel and XMetaL or another XML editor, preferred
Eligibility: This is a term pre-professional position open to currently enrolled Simmons SLIS students.
Location: 3 James Street, Cambridge, MA (in Radcliffe Yard, 2 blocks from Harvard Square)

Hours and Compensation
Salary: $21/hour
Start date: Fall 2025
End date: 6/30/2026
Hours: 14 hours per week. The Library is open Monday through Friday, 9-5.
