Job Description
The University of Hartford Archives and Special Collections (West Hartford, CT) is seeking a part-time project assistant to help with their 2025 CLIR Recordings at Risk grant project, Preserving and Providing Access to Selections from the Hartt Recording Studio Archives (1959-1999). The Project Assistant will be primarily responsible for the creation of descriptive metadata for over 400 tapes from the Hartt Recording Studio. This metadata will be published in a finding aid and digital repository. The project assistant will also help with quality checks of the digital recordings, preparing the metadata for ingest into the Connecticut Digital Archive (CTDA), creating/updating records in ArchivesSpace, and other grant related tasks, as assigned.
Hours: Up to 600 hours between September 1, 2025 through August 31, 2026 (approx. 12 hours per week). Scheduled during weekdays between 7:30am – 3:30pm.
Compensation: $25/hour (no benefits)
Start date: September 1, 2025 or after
Requirements:
- Must have a graduate library science degree or be in the latter half of a graduate library science degree program.
- Experience using ArchivesSpace and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledgeable using LCNAF and local authority records
- Experienced in data entry and working with metadata
- Familiar with EAD and MODS
- Familiar with digital preservation best practices
- Must be detail oriented
Preferences include:
- Familiarity with music, music compositions, and/or music history.
- Prior experience with CTDA and/or Islandora.
